Microsoft has officially announced that support for Exchange Server 2016 and Exchange Server 2019 will conclude on October 14, 2025. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide:
Technical Support – No assistance from Microsoft for troubleshooting or resolving issues.
Bug Fixes – No updates to resolve software defects or performance issues.
Security Updates – No patches for newly discovered vulnerabilities, increasing security risks.
Time Zone Updates – No updates to reflect changes in global time zones.
Although these servers will continue to function, organizations are strongly encouraged to take proactive measures to safeguard their systems and maintain security compliance.
1. Migrate to Exchange Online or Microsoft 365: Moving to Microsoft’s cloud services ensures continuous support, access to advanced features, and enhanced security measures, helping businesses stay competitive and secure.
2. Upgrade to Exchange Server Subscription Edition (SE): For organizations that require an on-premises solution, Microsoft will introduce Exchange Server SE in early H2 of 2025. Exchange 2019 users will have the option to perform an in-place upgrade, while Exchange 2016 users should first upgrade to Exchange 2019 to streamline the transition.
Given the limited window between the release of Exchange Server SE and the end-of-support date, it is critical for organizations to start planning their transition as soon as possible. Postponing action could leave systems vulnerable to security threats and compliance issues.
